complement, compliment
Complement when used as a verb means “to combine well with something.” Compliment when used as a verb means “to praise someone”.
| Incorrect: | Remember that supplements can compliment your healthy eating and exercise habits. |
| Correct: | Remember that supplements can complement your healthy eating and exercise habits. |
| Incorrect: | They complemented her for the fine job she has done. |
| Correct: | They complimented her for the fine job she has done. |
