What’s wrong with this sentence?
“The temperature tomorrow will be a few degrees hotter than today.”
The quoted sentence has a faulty comparison. Faulty comparison occurs when dissimilar items are compared. The
first item of the comparison is the temperature tomorrow; the second
item of the comparison is today, functioning as an adverb.
There are two ways to correct the sentence.
The temperature tomorrow will be a few degrees hotter than the
temperature today.
The temperature tomorrow will be a few degrees hotter than today's.
When writing a comparison, make sure that you are comparing like items.
