Which should you use, complacent or complaisant? When you are complacent, you feel too confident and relaxed because you think you can deal with something easily, even though this may not be true. The adjective complaisant means showing a cheerful willingness to do favours for others.

Incorrect: They have become arrogant and complaisant.
Correct: They have become arrogant and complacent.
Incorrect: They wanted a complacent child.
Correct: They wanted a complaisant child.
