Which should you use, as or like? As a subordinating conjunction, as is used to introduce a subordinate or dependent clause. As a preposition, like is used before a noun or noun phrase.

Incorrect: Buyers appear to be optimistic about the future like they have been in the recent past.
Correct: Buyers appear to be optimistic about the future as they have been in the recent past.
