Which should you use, appraise or apprise? The verb appraise means to examine someone or something in order to form an opinion. The verb phrase apprise someone of something means to tell someone about something.

Incorrect: He has been appraised of the situation.
Correct: He has been apprised of the situation.
Incorrect: We will apprise the situation and suggest appropriate steps.
Correct: We will appraise the situation and suggest appropriate steps.
