whatever, whenever

Which should you use, whatever or whenever? Whatever and whenever are often used to introduce a sentence. The question is when to use which.

If you want to say that something is not important, use whatever.

Correct: Whatever you buy, you get cashback. (It makes no difference what you buy, you get cashback.)

If you want to say that a specific time is not important, use whenever.

Correct: Whenever you buy, you get cashback. (Every time that you buy, you get cashback.)
