Which should you use, clear or clearly? The adjective clear may mean easy to understand or perceive, obvious, transparent, free of obstructions, or not touching. Use clear when you want to describe something. The adverb clearly means in a clear manner. Use clearly when you want to say how something is done.

Incorrect: You will get a clearly picture.
Correct: You will get a clear picture.
Incorrect: I hope I’ve been able to explain this clear enough.
Correct: I hope I’ve been able to explain this clearly enough.
