Which should you use, borrow or lend? The verb borrow means to receive and use something from someone else and promise to return it later. The verb lend means to give someone something for a short time expecting that it will be returned to you later. You borrow something from someone, but you lend something to someone.

Incorrect: I borrowed him some money.
Correct: I lent him some money.
Incorrect: Can I lend it from you?
Correct: Can I borrow it from you?
