Which should you use, the passed or the past? The adjective past is used before a noun to refer to a period of time before the present. The noun phrase the past refers to the time before the present. The passed is incorrect.

Correct: Many things happened in the past year.
Incorrect: It happened in the passed.
Correct: It happened in the past.
